This morning high alert level readings were being reported on the radiation monitoring site Radiation Network for the area around the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Plant in Massachusetts. recently there have been a lot of questions concerning safety and the plants ability to function properly. A December 7th article in the Cape Cod Times quotes Donald Jackson, chief of operations at the NRC as saying, “The plant seems overwhelmed just trying to run the station.”. In a phone call to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Public Affairs Officer Neil Sheehan, said that they were aware of these reports and that after looking into it they found nothing unusual, and that the monitors run by the Department of Public Health in Massachusetts, along with the EPA’s and Pilgrims own monitoring has not indicated any above regulation readings. We will have to wait and see where this one goes. I hope they are right.
