I’m really not sure what this Police department thought the outcome of this little joke would be, but I think that it will result in more addiction and deaths from overdose in their community.

While this one woman who has been arrested may get help now, it is more likely that she having been publicly ridiculed, will be another statistic. And surely the officers in the area now have lost the chance to have honest dialogue with those who are in addiction. Of course if their idea was to send the message that there is no hope for you if you are on meth or heroin, they have succeeded. Now who will call in if they or a loved one has overdosed and needs medical help. How about a family member who wants to see their loved one get help, now afraid the police will lie to them also and stick the offender in the prison system.
All I can say now is don’t be surprised Mr. Granite Shoals Police Officer when you are called out to rescue a puppy under some house and when you crawl out from under it you find someone has snatched the donuts from your dashboard.

The Easter Egg

An article caught my eye today and so you know I gotta say something about it. People traveling through North Carolina are all up in arms. And what would be the reason for this? Their sin is being pointed out, that’s what. Well if you would ask them not many would supply that answer but for me it’s accurate.
Here is what is going on. In an effort to save lives on the highways, the State Police have begun a campaign to crack down on speeding which is a factor in a lot of highway deaths in North Carolina. Problem here is that many of those ticketed are complaining that they were only going a mile or two or five over the limit. What? Yes the police are ticketing people just over the limit. How dare they. you see most folks think that there is some sort of unwritten law that you can go up to five miles an hour over the limit and not be cited.
Absurd really that they would not let people do this, not! What is absurd is that we expect to be absolved of this minor infraction. What if we expected to be allowed a few points over on the breath test for drunk driving, or a few dollars over on what we spend without having to pay?
But, the real thing I am getting at is the spiritual connect. That’s right, the spiritual! And here it is. Right now. Put the torches down first. Alright, here we go. We, that’s me and you, have developed a theology that is “The Church of Expected Grace”. That’s right expected grace. We talk about not having a theology of cheap grace, and we talk a good talk. But in reality what we have made for ourselves is a god after our own desires. Yes where sin abounds grace abounds all the more, but are we planning on going a little outside the lines knowing there is grace? That’s where the trouble is, our planning and justifying beforehand the buffer zone that does not exist. The limit is the limit and if I call you out on it it will offend you, same as you calling me out offends me in what I believe is allowable. Take heed as I must in my lines that are a bit outside the lines, five, ten, fifteen, or one, its all sin. And that is what I mean by EXPECTED GRACE, as opposed to offered and accepted grace.

How can it be that we have bought into a theology that says we are better than others.
That is just what a teaching that says its alright to hold back trust after sin says. It says I didn’t do that and you did so I have a point to stand on. A right or reason to not restore the relationship completely. Be angry if you want, but we do this because why? how?
I’ll tell you how, we think we are good. Now, you say, Rob I don’t think I’m good, Jesus makes me good. As Paul Simon said in his 50 ways to leave your lover,” The problem is all inside your head”. We don’t want this man of sin revealed in us. In our head, our Golgotha, place of the skull, where our little mush of brain matter resides, Pride comes before a fall, be careful how you forgive. Do it like Jesus. Not like me, not for me, but for you.

Peter Denies Jesus

A popular teaching among Christians goes like this:
I forgive them, but I can’t forget.
I forgive them but I can’t trust them.
Just like Peter and all the disciples we have denied Christ, even after he saved us and taught us and came to live in us.

Now this man who cursed the idea that he was one of Christs when he was restored still was the one. Forgiveness complete!
This is one of those hard teachings, many walk away over. Don’t let that be you, or me.
God gave everything to His Son, and Jesus gave everything to us, us who even after our calling and salvation find that sin in our flesh. But we have not had His “all things” removed. A real complete forgiveness requires all forgiveness, all restoration. Just me talkin’. About God talkin’.

Because I am selfish. That’s the short answer, but it goes further and deeper than that. I’ll try and explain it to you the best I know how. I’ve seen and read the experiences of many who have been diagnosed with deadly cancer. But they all seem to start at the moment of the person hearing the results that are conclusive. Me, I have a test that shows it may be, or may not be cancer, or whatever. So at this point it is just a maybe. But I need a definitive answer, I’m at that in-between point. You see, I’m selfish, it’s all about me. I was selfish the day I sprang forth from my mothers womb. In fact, as the story goes I came out crying and demanding to be breast fed immediately. And all my life this is how I have been. Even now I want to get this diagnosis so that when I die people will say good things about me. At funerals people generally aren’t speaking of all the bad things the deceased did. Oh, there are tons tons of great stories of the wonderful and funny things this person did. But right now, all people see is the fact that if I do have cancer , I deserve it. And in fact, that is right, I do deserve it. I deserve it because I have lived an awful selfish life. I have used and abused all that God and the people around me have given to me. Selfish is what I am.
Self-ish is what I am. interesting?
Selfish is how I live, it’s all about me, and what the flesh desires. So even at this moment I’m thinking about me, and how this could help my image. You know the old saying,” Image is everything”, interesting? You really don’t have to tell me what an awful person I have been. I know it well. This is one thing God has allowed me the pleasure of having a deep revelation of. Despite His love, grace, and mercy, I continue to be selfish, to desire the things of the flesh. But this will not surprise those around me, they know how I’ve been, struggling with sin, and sins tempting. It was almost a freeing experience to see the possibility of a soon removal from this world. All my problems, struggles, pains, gone in an instant. Even here at this point I’m thinking about me. How did I ever get this far along in life with this way of living.
You see, I have no excuse. None. This life, all in Gods plan somehow, was given and redeemed by Him who is Creator, Sustainer, Redeemer. This awesome, magnificent, God, who is completely different from anything we know, outside of time,space, and matter. This God, called me. He called me. Me? Selfish me.
Self ish, Brought Satan down, brought mankind down, and brought me down. Selfishness is pride. It says, “why not?” “I deserve it”, “After all you, are the most important person to you”.
Ezekiel Chapter 28
13 Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone [was] thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created.

See, Satan was all about himself. And me, I tend toward being about me. Satan’s temptations are the prideful thoughts and actions that he has. The lust of the flesh the lust of the eyes and the pride of life. That’s how he comes at you, with a reasonable offer. 1 John 2.

Same in the Garden, and Jesus in the wilderness, and us now. Mt. 4 I fall for somethings more than others. And I deserve the worst. But the amazing thing about salvation is that is given to the undeserving.
While we were yet sinners Christ died for us.

I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
and
I know that in me, that is, in my flesh, dwelleth no good thing.

Anyway the end of the story is this. If I happen to have cancer or leukemia or one of those things and pass from this earth. My family would be deserving of help, and millions of others would also. So help them if you feel led, their position is based on my bad decisions, but I hope that you would consider helping someone who is undeserving of it. Today and from now on I want to help someone undeserving like Jesus did for me. And don’t tell any stories about what a wonderful Christian I was, or all the great things that I did for others or funny stories of my life. Just say He was undeserving but Christ died for him and despite all his struggles it is in Christ alone he put his trust.
As I get older the only verse in the Bible that I question is 1 Timothy 1:15 where Paul says he is the chief sinners. And the reason being, I know myself,,,and that self is selfish, and even in this I want the distinction.
15 This [is] a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.
